Healthcare and post-acute organizations are all evolving technologically on their own timelines. Some are already using big data and reaping the benefits of basic analytics. Still others are now beginning to investigate the area of predictive analytics, which estimate the likelihood of a future outcome based on patterns in historical data. 

For example, predictive analytics can warn providers when a patient’s risk factors indicate a high likelihood for readmission within a 30-day window. This kind of “actionable intelligence” helps contribute to improved clinical outcomes (and avoid related penalties).
